Balnarring Vineyard is located on the Mornington Peninsula
and has operated as a vineyard and winery since 1982.
It was one of the first vineyards on the Mornington Peninsula.
Kathleen Quealy & Kevin McCarthy established the business in 2006, each with a further 20 years of winemaking experience. Kathleen oversees daily operations at the vineyard.
Quealy’s winemaking is an imaginative exploration of varieties, techniques
and vineyard sites.
Quealy Pinot Grigio, Friulano & field blend Pobblebonk are all grown
at their Balnarring Vineyard. The Pinot Grigio is the variety that established
the Quealy reputation, Friulano is an up and coming cool climate variety
now premiering on the Mornington Peninsula.
Pobblebonk is the field blend of Balnarring Vineyard, a white super blend
combining the aromatics of Riesling and Moscato Giallo with Friulano, Pinot
Grigio and Chardonnay.
17 Rows Pinot Noir is the gold of Balnarring Vineyard, made into a deep
and brooding Pinot Noir, with all the advantages of a north face, 30 year
old MV6 clone vines and wide spacing.
Quealy manages the Musk Creek Vineyard located on that road in the
cool hinterland of Flinders. Musk Creek Gris is exceptionally powerful and aromatic. Musk Creek Pinot Noir is feminine, with a silky palate and more a classic Peninsula style. All these wines are of great distinction deserving their single vineyard status.
Quealy Malakoff Pyrenees Nebbiolo from the vineyard owned by the John family; the Nebbiolo is on 12 year old vines. This is the second vintage as Quealy Nebbiolo.
Quealy harvests three Muscat varieties. Muscat Giallo is aromatic and with body; Muscat Giallo in Pobblebonk creates fragrance and finesse. Quealy Moscato is a balanced dry sparkling wine without any sulphur or preservative.
May Harvest Muscat is grown for Quealy by Joe Vaughan at Merricks North. It’s a French clone of Muscat with the capacity to ripen with Botrytis. |
